San Juan Cruise Port Shares Terminal Access Guidance for the 2026 San Sebastián Street Festival
San Juan Cruise Port has implemented a coordinated access plan to support homeport cruise passengers departing during the Fiestas de la Calle San Sebastián, taking place from January 15 to 18, 2026, in Old San Juan.
The plan was developed in coordination with the Municipality of San Juan, the Puerto Rico Ports Authority, and the Puerto Rico Tourism Company to help passengers reach their assigned cruise terminals safely and efficiently while the festival brings heavy pedestrian and vehicle traffic to the historic district.
Passengers sailing during this period are strongly encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and follow official instructions from San Juan Cruise Port and municipal personnel.
Cruise Departures During Festival Weekend
Several homeport departures are scheduled during the busiest days of the San Sebastián Street Festival.
On Saturday, January 17, homeport departures include Valiant Lady from Virgin Voyages and Emerald Azzurra.
On Sunday, January 18, scheduled departures include Ritz-Carlton Ilma, Viking Sea, and Grand Princess.
Because of the increased traffic expected throughout Old San Juan and surrounding access roads, passengers should make transportation arrangements in advance and arrive earlier than usual.
Arrive Early and Prepare for Heavy Traffic
The San Sebastián Street Festival is one of Puerto Rico’s largest and most attended cultural celebrations. During festival weekend, access to Old San Juan can be affected by road closures, checkpoints, high pedestrian volume, and limited vehicle circulation.
Cruise passengers traveling to the Old San Juan piers should allow additional time to reach the terminal, especially during peak festival hours.
Passengers should also have their cruise documentation ready before reaching access points. Printed boarding passes are strongly recommended, as they can help facilitate entry through designated checkpoints, support coordination with security personnel, and make it easier to reach the assigned pier.
Transportation Guidance for Old San Juan Cruise Piers
For passengers using rideshare services such as Uber or Lyft, the designated drop-off and pick-up location will be the Escambrón parking lot in Puerta de Tierra.
From Escambrón, San Juan Cruise Port will provide complimentary shuttle service directly to the cruise piers in Old San Juan.
SJCP personnel will be stationed at key points to assist passengers. Team members will be identifiable by their uniforms and “Ask Me” signage.
Taxi access will also be available through designated routes. Taxis will have direct access to the San Juan islet up to the Department of Treasury parking lot, which will serve as the primary designated drop-off and pick-up zone for this operation.
Panamerican Pier Departures During the Festival
Cruises departing from the Panamerican Piers during this period include Jewel of the Seas, Grand Princess, Norwegian Epic, and Brilliance of the Seas.
Airport transfers to the Panamerican Pier will use dedicated lanes secured through coordination with the Municipality of San Juan.
Local drop-offs traveling to the Panamerican Pier should use the following route:
Marginal Baldorioty de Castro, Highway 1 → Lindbergh Avenue → Panamerican Pier
This route is intended to support safer and more efficient traffic flow during peak festival activity and avoid unnecessary congestion near Old San Juan.
Coordinated Operations During a Major Cultural Event
San Juan Cruise Port continues working closely with the Municipality of San Juan, Municipal and State Police, tourism partners, transportation authorities, and other agencies to support cruise operations during the festival.
The objective is to maintain safe and efficient terminal access for passengers while supporting one of Puerto Rico’s most important cultural celebrations.
Passengers are encouraged to monitor San Juan Cruise Port and official municipal social media channels for real-time updates throughout the festival weekend.
