Puerto Rico Ports Authority Brings Agencies Together for 2026–2027 High-Season Readiness Meeting
Hosted at San Juan Cruise Port’s Pan American Pier West, the meeting provided a forum for SJCP to present its season projections and operational plans to invited government agencies and industry partners.
The Puerto Rico Ports Authority organized the High Season 2026–2027: Operational Readiness Interagency Meeting, bringing together the principal public- and private-sector organizations involved in San Juan’s cruise operations.
San Juan Cruise Port (SJCP) hosted the meeting at Pan American Pier West and presented the preliminary cruise schedule, passenger projections, operational priorities, and port-specific plans developed for the upcoming high season.
The presentation gave the invited agencies and industry partners a comprehensive view of the activity anticipated between October 2026 and April 2027 and the preparations underway across San Juan’s cruise facilities.
The Puerto Rico Ports Authority Convenes Operational Partners
As the public owner of the cruise port infrastructure, the Puerto Rico Ports Authority convened the organizations whose work directly supports the safe and efficient movement of vessels, passengers, crews, vehicles, and services.
The meeting created a structured forum for government agencies, tourism organizations, transportation regulators, security authorities, shipping representatives, and port operators to receive SJCP’s operational briefing and discuss the coordination required for the season.
This advance coordination is especially important on days when multiple ships and thousands of passengers will be moving through the different port districts simultaneously.
SJCP Presents the 2026–2027 High-Season Outlook
Based on the preliminary schedule available, San Juan is projected to welcome approximately 1.29 million passengers through 541 cruise calls between October 2026 and April 2027. These figures include both transit and homeport operations, in addition to the thousands of crew members who will also move through the port.
During the meeting, SJCP presented the anticipated distribution of cruise activity and the operational demands associated with the season.
The briefing allowed participating agencies to better understand expected passenger volumes, high-activity periods, and the days when several vessels are scheduled to operate at the same time.
By sharing this information before the season begins, SJCP provides its government and industry partners with the visibility needed to evaluate staffing, transportation, security, and operational requirements.
Operational Plans Across San Juan’s Cruise Districts
SJCP also presented its operational plans for the facilities in Old San Juan and the Pan American District.
The presentation addressed preparations for passenger movement, homeport and transit operations, tour and transportation activity, access to the port, guest assistance, security coordination, and terminal readiness.
Particular attention was given to days when the four cruise berths in Old San Juan are occupied simultaneously. SJCP outlined the deployment of its host program to provide passengers with assistance and orientation during these high-volume operations.
The presentation also reviewed the operating plans for Pier 3, Pier 4, Pan American Pier East, and Pan American Pier West, allowing invited agencies to understand how the port intends to manage activity across each facility.
Government Agencies and Industry Representatives Participate
The meeting included representatives from the Puerto Rico Ports Authority, the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, the United States Coast Guard, the Puerto Rico Police Bureau, the Bureau of Transportation and Other Public Services, the Public Service Regulatory Board, the Puerto Rico Shipping Association, and other public- and private-sector partners.
Participants included Jaime Lafuente, President of the Bureau of Transportation and Other Public Services; Ángel Cruz, Commissioner of the Public Service Regulatory Board; Jorge Pérez, Deputy Director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company; and José Nazario, President of the Puerto Rico Shipping Association.
Their participation allowed the organizations responsible for transportation, tourism, public safety, maritime services, and port operations to receive the same information and prepare from a common operational outlook.
Preparing Together for the Months Ahead
The Operational Readiness Interagency Meeting established an important foundation for the continued coordination that will be required throughout the high season.
With the Puerto Rico Ports Authority leading the interagency effort, SJCP providing the operational information and port plans, and the invited agencies preparing their respective resources, San Juan is working toward a coordinated start to the 2026–2027 season.
