Princess Cruises Returns to San Juan as a Homeport with Grand Princess
San Juan Cruise Port strengthened its position as a premier Caribbean homeport with the return of Grand Princess, marking the official comeback of Princess Cruises to San Juan as a port of embarkation.
The 2025–2026 season includes 26 seven-night roundtrip sailings from San Juan and represents a projected direct economic impact of more than $20 million for Puerto Rico.
For San Juan, the return of Princess Cruises as a homeport operator is more than a seasonal deployment. It reflects renewed confidence in Puerto Rico’s cruise infrastructure, the strength of the destination, and the value of homeport operations within the island’s tourism economy.
26 Weekly Sailings from San Juan
Beginning October 12, 2025, and continuing through April 5, 2026, Grand Princess will operate weekly roundtrip sailings from San Juan.
Each departure is expected to host approximately 3,100 passengers and 1,500 crew members, creating consistent movement through the port and across the local visitor economy.
Across the full season, the 26 sailings are projected to generate $20,930,000 in direct economic impact for Puerto Rico.
This level of activity reinforces the importance of homeport operations. Unlike traditional transit calls, homeporting often encourages passengers to arrive before their cruise or stay after their sailing, creating additional demand for hotels, transportation, restaurants, retail, tours, and other visitor services.
Eastern Caribbean Itineraries Built for Extended Travel
Grand Princess will operate seven-night itineraries from San Juan to destinations across the Eastern Caribbean, including Tortola, St. Kitts, Dominica, Grenada, Barbados, St. Thomas, St. Maarten, and Antigua.
The routes are structured to allow back-to-back sailings with limited port repetition, making San Juan an attractive departure point for travelers seeking longer Caribbean vacations and more varied itineraries.
This structure strengthens San Juan’s value as a homeport by offering passengers more flexibility, more destination variety, and a stronger reason to begin their Caribbean journey in Puerto Rico.
Strengthening San Juan as a Caribbean Cruise Hub
The return of Princess Cruises as a homeport operator reflects continued confidence in San Juan’s operational capabilities and infrastructure modernization.
Since officially assuming operations in February 2024, San Juan Cruise Port has executed more than $60 million in capital improvements across its facilities. These improvements include structural pier rehabilitation, electrical and mechanical upgrades, passenger flow enhancements, and capacity expansion to accommodate larger and more complex cruise operations.
These investments form part of SJCP’s long-term $425 million development strategy under its Public-Private Partnership with the Puerto Rico Ports Authority.
By improving infrastructure and strengthening operational efficiency, San Juan Cruise Port continues positioning Puerto Rico to compete for major homeport deployments in the Caribbean.
The Economic Value of Homeport Growth
Homeport operations generate deeper and more sustained economic activity than traditional transit calls.
Each departure can support pre- and post-cruise hotel stays, increased transportation demand, extended dining and retail spending, and greater engagement with local tour operators and attractions.
For Puerto Rico, this means that the value of a homeport season extends beyond the pier. It reaches hotels, restaurants, small businesses, cultural experiences, transportation networks, and service providers across the tourism ecosystem.
With 26 scheduled departures, Grand Princess represents a meaningful opportunity to support recurring economic activity throughout the 2025–2026 cruise season.
A Strategic Milestone for Puerto Rico’s Cruise Industry
The return of Princess Cruises to San Juan as a homeport operator marks a strategic milestone in Puerto Rico’s cruise development.
It reinforces San Juan’s ability to support large-scale embarkation operations while continuing to attract major global cruise brands. It also aligns with San Juan Cruise Port’s broader objective of growing Puerto Rico’s role as one of the Caribbean’s leading embarkation hubs.
Through continued investment, operational coordination, and strong cruise line partnerships, SJCP is advancing a clear vision for the future: a stronger homeport, a more competitive destination, and long-term economic value for Puerto Rico.
With Grand Princess, San Juan continues moving closer to its goal of becoming the region’s leading cruise embarkation port.
